This is one of the most famous temples in the Kangra valley. This temple follows a unique tradition of worshipping the goddess. It is a tradition that every year, during the festival of Lohri, the Pindi of the Goddess is decorated with a layer of butter. It is believed that in ancient times the goddess had used butter to heal the wound she got during her battle with the demon Mahishasur. The sight of the decorated pindi attracts a lot of devotees from places near and far. Though the exact date of the construction of this temple is not known but during the beginning of the 11th Century the popularity of this temple had reached its Zenith. It is the reason why Mohammed Gazni Invaded Kangra and Looted this Temple, in the year 1009. Later in the year 1360 Sultan Feroze Tughlaq damaged the structure and in the earthquake of the year 1905 this temple was completely destroyed. Finally the process of rebuilding the temple was completed in the year 1925.
